Summary: FU Berlin is strongest in biophysics and chemical physics within the Berlin quantum ecosystem. The Department of Physics and Astronomy has groups in condensed matter and biophysics; the Department of Chemistry (Vöhringer group, coherent control; Haag group, nano-biointerfaces) contributes to quantum sensing at the bio/chemistry boundary. The Dahlem Research School and Excellence Initiative 'Unifying Systems in Catalysis' extend into sensing applications. FU Berlin is particularly interesting for quantum sensing in biological contexts, with strong biophysics and single-molecule spectroscopy traditions. Access to the Berlin quantum ecosystem (HU, TU, PTB, HZB, BESSY II) greatly amplifies individual group strengths.

Notes: Excellence Initiative university. Strong in biophysics, chemical physics, and condensed matter. Dahlem Forschungsgemeinschaft. Part of Berlin University Alliance with HU Berlin, TU Berlin, and Charité. Access to BESSY II (HZB synchrotron) and PTB metrology institute.
