Summary: Historically strong in optics, laser physics, and AMO physics — the Faculty of Physics has produced foundational work in quantum optics (Prokhorov, Nobel 1964) and nonlinear optics. Active groups in quantum optics, laser spectroscopy, and biophotonics. However, the geopolitical situation since 2022 (sanctions, funding restrictions, isolation from international collaborations, visa and travel barriers) makes this institution effectively inaccessible for international postdocs and severely hampered for collaborative research.

Notes: Russia's leading classical research university. Historically significant for quantum optics and laser physics. Faculty of Physics hosts groups in quantum optics, laser spectroscopy, and condensed matter. Deep expertise in theoretical and experimental AMO physics.

Warnings: CRITICAL: Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, MSU is effectively inaccessible for international postdoc applicants. Sanctions, travel restrictions, funding incompatibilities, and the university's formal support for the war effort make appointment here inadvisable for researchers based in Western institutions. Collaboration with international partners is severely curtailed.
